I (18F) started a daycare/school job a few months back. Recently a situation came up and I don't know if I should consider looking for a different job or not.

For context, I deal with toddlers and I'm kind of like.. a floater/sub/whatever. There's two of us teachers in the class. I had never worked with this teacher before, we had to combine classes because the population was low and her only student that showed up was getting bored. One teacher had one on the changing table to change their diaper. I had about 8 kids in the class, running around. It was post lunch and about time to clean up, read a story and take a nap. I had instructed this kid to st

Whatever, I tell the kid to be gentle and that I can help them clean up. They start hitting me again. I get down to their level, pull them a bit closer and ask them what's up and they want me to help them clean up. When I pulled the kid closer, their entire body moved and the other teacher thought that I was taking out my frustration on the kid? It definitely wasn't my intention to do that but I can see how they'd take it like that.

Fast forward, this teacher reported me to my supervisor. My big boss gets mad, explains I used force with force and tells me I could be terminated. I explain that I didn't tug the child to make them feel thst way, I was trying to get them to clean up nor did I have to intention to hurt them. I gave them the time stamp, they left to check the cameras. They came back and apologized, praising me as a really good sub and told me to take an early lunch.

At that point, it left a pretty taste in my mouth and I don't know what I should do. Should I consider finding a new job? Any advice? This is my first teaching job and I don't know what to do.

EDIT: To clarify, I misspoke twice. I wrote this a little late at night so I didn't realize my typo but I am 18. I do work at a school. It has a toddler department and a preschool department. We do have teachers, I do work as a classroom aid.

EDIT #2: Thank you to lots of the helpful comments :) I did post this to find some reassurance, I was very scared because I had never been in an education based job. I appreciate a lot of the help and advice, I do enjoy my job. The children I teach are an absolute delight.

Repulsive-Baker-4268. 3 days ago No, if you're going to give up after 1 bump in the road, you'll never grow. However, Boss should show the other teacher to video so they can understand what really happened and apologize to you. 135 Reply Share

OneTop3934 3 days ago I actually think she might be working in a decent place - after all the boss checked the cameras, apologized and tried to make it up to her. Those are all... reasonable things to do and frankly, the apologizing so easily part is kind of rare for most people, let alone a superior.

bur Sunflowerbugs. 3 days ago Sorry that happened to you. Keep in mind that the boss needs to be very mindful of the children's well being and any force that is being used in the facility. It sounds like they were open and receptive to getting all the facts before any punishment was given to you- that's not the worse thing in the world. I would suggest trying to view it from the side of the boss (and other teacher) trying to protect the toddlers the best they could. Ultimately they did see that

Just remember that great bosses try to do the best they can with the information given- and finding a boss who will take the time to listen to you and follow up to get the information before making a disciplinary decision is rare.

ICantDrive5 3 days ago . When it comes to child caree facilities like that, they have to treat accusations as the accused is guilty until proven innocent to protect the child.

Also I don't blame the other teacher either. She saw something out of her eye and was mistaken. But she has a due diligence to report any suspected abuse. Suspected being the key word. At that point the center investigates. Your director explained the situation, watched the tapes, commended you on your work and gave you a little perk as an apology. To me it played out exactly how it should have.

I get it though. You know in your heart that you wouldn't hurt a child. But no one else there knows that for sure. Don't think of it like the teacher was trying to attack or blame you. Treat it like the teacher has the kids best interest at heart and wanted to be sure beyond any reasonable doubt.

Ok-Hedgehog5310 OP. 3 days ago I can understand that however, I think it was just a lot to deal with, being dumped all the information and not knowing whether I'll be getting fired or not based on an accusation.

I do understand but I think I just wish that they had checked the tapes before pulling me in and discussing termination, last chance, and everything else.
